Late Saturday night, emergency services arrived at an apartment complex in Hartford, Connecticut. The off-campus apartment housed students of Trinity College who were partying on the third floor balcony when it collapsed onto the second floor balcony. The structure couldn’t support the weight of the estimated 50 students, and more than 30 students were injured when the two balconies fell.
Thankfully, the majority of the injuries appear to be minor. The injured students were rushed to six regional hospitals, most of whom were hurt while running for cover from the collapse. Police found a three-story beer bong, and noted that while the house wasn’t a fraternity house, all five residents were members of a fraternity.
They plan to investigate further, but details suggest there were just too many people on the balcony. Hartford police Deputy Chief Brian Foley told the Daily News, “The decks seemed pretty old and somewhat deteriorated now that they’re detached from the house.”
We wish all the students in the accident a speedy recovery..
