Getting drunk on champagne sounds like a fabulous idea in theory, until you actually do it and realize all the sugar and calories are the reason for your massive hangover the next morning. A new ‘diet’ prosecco contains half the calories of regular prosecco and has less calories than a banana, which makes it perfect for chugging out of the bottle.
Prosecco is basically the same thing as champagne, but it’s made in Italy instead of France. Thomson & Scott Skinny Prosecco debuted earlier this year and is now appearing in restaurants all over the UK. Their prosecco is organic, made from grapes grown in the foothills of the Dolomites, Italy, and contains just 67 calories per glass. It’s less sweet than other sparkling wines due to its low sugar content, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming so popular that you have to put your name down on a waiting list just to get your hands on a bottle.
Not only is it low calorie, but a bottle only costs £17.99, which is about $23. It’s only available in the UK for now, but Amanda Thomson, CEO of Thomson & Scott says that she sees a huge demand for Skinny Prosecco in the USA and anticipates getting it in stores across the pond in 12-18 months.
“Our common commitment to transparency in food and drink makes us a natural fit for the Millennial customers who want less sugar in their lives but don’t want to compromise on taste,” said Thomson.
Guilt free prosecco that’s actually affordable? I’ll be buying bottles of this stuff in bulk. .
