Notable Sratstars: Sharen Jester Turney

Who has blonde hair, blue eyes, and is responsible for something 99% of sorority girls are wearing right now? No, it’s not Barbie, but good guess! It’s Sharen Jester Turney, CEO Barbie in human form and my latest Sratstar! Turney, named 3rd highest earning woman by Forbes, is the head of Victoria’s Secret, and yes, she gets as much free merchandise as she wants (lucky bitch). But the best part about her is that she is a sorority woman, just like you and me, and her family life and career are things we can all draw inspiration from as graduation gets closer and closer.

Raised on a farm in a small Oklahoma town, the tiny and vivacious blonde finished high school as an honor student and headed for the University of Oklahoma. There, she was selected to be one of the first dancers for OU Pom and…you guessed it, signed up for sorority recruitment, and naturally found a place to call home. As a Delta Gamma, she perfected her skills as a dancer, student, and classy ass sorority girl. Turney has always been described as peppy and genuine, and her natural charm earned her several job offers at Oklahoman businesses (she wasn’t even a business major, she’s just that charming). After graduating, she accepted an offer to work at the srattiest store in the world: Neiman Marcus. She spent a few years in the merchandising department, and then went on to none other than the relatively new “man-friendly” lingerie store, Victoria’s Secret. Her career took off from there, rising in the ranks from director of Victoria’s Secret to Chief Executive Officer. Turney took the small, burgeoning company and turned it into what it is today, the very definition of the American sex appeal. As she moves forward with the company, she is making it her mission to tone down the overt sexuality of the brand and bring back the femininity and sophistication of early Victoria’s Secret fashion. Now if that doesn’t scream classy sorority woman, I don’t know what does.

Beyond her obvious success and putting panties on every sorority girl in the nation, she’s also the best wife and mother a family could have (besides my own, of course). For the past 20 years, she has been happily married to a very lucrative venture capitalist, who holds down their fort in Ohio while she’s travelling to New York and overseas. She also has a 16-year-old son, who is very active in theater and photojournalism. No matter where she is travelling or what is going on at work, she has never missed a single one of his performances. Not to mention he gets dozens of calls from Victoria’s Secret models wishing him a happy birthday every year. Best. Mom. Ever. Sharen Jester Turney is pretty much the definition of success. She has a loving family, a fantastic job, and can still look good while standing next to Miranda Kerr (not bad for a woman in her 50s!). As young sorority women on the cusp of entering the real world, wanting to reach our potential in all aspects of life, we should take note of Turney’s beauty, brains, and lady balls in her career to go out and do anything we can dream of doing.
