Phi Delta Theta Chapter At Washburn University Suspended Over Seriously Gross And Inappropriate Text Messages

Another day, another story about a fraternity getting in trouble. This time it’s the Phi Delta Theta chapter at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas and it’s over what are being called “sexually vulgar” texts sent in a group messaging app.

According to The Topeka Capital-Journal, they obtained messages, allegedly from the fraternity men, that included fine pearls of wisdom such as:

“Women are equal and deserve respect … just kidding they should (expletive).”

It didn’t end there. Apparently these boys didn’t have mothers, because then they said this:

“Remember, women are objects.”

Not THAT bad, right? I mean, obviously completely sexist and fucking stupid, but probably nothing an entire chapter should be investigated for. Yeah, except then it went to a scary place where someone uttered words about someone else’s sister that caused the whole damn thing to rightly come crashing down.

“She’s 12. She’s a woman,”

According to the report, this guy was inferring, jokingly or not, that 12-year-old girls are old enough for sex.

Whoaaaaaaa, dudes. Too far. Way too far. Now, one brother in the chat responded to that comment with, “That’s my sister. If you want your balls left intact, I suggest you get that (expletive) out of your head,” which I’m hoping was more of general statement about how SEX WITH ANY CHILD IS NOT OKAY, as opposed to just with this guy’s sister. But either way, the chapter is pretty much screwed, particularly because the newspaper did a little research and, using Facebook profiles, found that several names of listed in the completely disgusting exchanges match the names of chapter members.

As far as Phi Delta Theta Nationals goes, they are none too pleased. They have suspended the chapter’s operations and a statement from Sean Wagner, associate executive vice president, said, “We are very concerned by the messages reviewed thus far. Phi Delta Theta is a values-based organization and any behavior or statement contrary to those values is subject to significant action.”
