First, the good news: every member of the sorority, and assumedly everyone in general, is safe and accounted for, per early reports.
From the ΑΓΔ Facebook page:
Thank you to everyone for your outpour of love, support and blessings. All of our women are safe, which is the most important thing. We are so blessed by the overwhelming love and blessings we have been receiving from family, friends, alumna, our OU Greek community, our Sooner family, and numerous chapters and individuals across the country. It all means so much to us–thank you! Right now we are all just so grateful for your thoughts and prayers.
The fire broke out just before 11pm on Tuesday night, and according to the images that are rolling in, it appears to have engulfed the third floor and roof of the house. Per The Norman Transcript, firefighters had the blaze under control by 11:30pm. I’m not a sorority house fire expert, but that seems like a job very well done by the Norman Fire Department. The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire are not yet known.
A damn shame. The ΑΓΔ house looks to be a pretty substantial, very nice home. Here’s to hoping the fire didn’t cause so much damage that the structure is unsalvageable.
Lastly, according to a tipster that notified TFM of the fire last night, the sorority members of Kappa Alpha Theta welcomed their grief-stricken, temporarily homeless neighbors into their home. And for that, they get some “atta girls” from me.
