Miss Arkansas Savvy Shields won the title of Miss America 2017 last night and we can’t stop obsessing over her. She’s a 21-year-old art major and Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Arkansas and is a great example of what a sorority woman should be. Miss America was actually her second win of the week, as she placed first in the preliminary talent portion of the competition with a jazz routine to a song from the TV show “Smash.” She also impressed the judges during her onstage interview when she gave a perfectly thoughtful and composed response on her thoughts about Hillary Clinton. “If you’re trying to be leader of the free world, everything you say and do matters and all of your actions are held to a higher standard,” Shields said. “Both of the contestants have done a good job, but they also need to watch what they’re doing.”
She’s a total inspiration, from her work with Children’s Miracle Networks Hospitals and Reading Is Fundamental to her lifelong dream of being a backup dancer for Beyoncé. She stopped by her sorority house in Fayetteville, Arkansas before heading to the competition in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where she received an outpouring of support from her sorority sisters and we can seriously feel the love.
