Alzheimer’s affects millions of people every year. It’s not just for the feeble, it’s not reserved for the ancient, and it doesn’t just happen to the people whose lives have already been lived, whose dreams have already been achieved, whose memories have already been made. Alzheimer’s is all around us.

It is a scary illness, terrifying, even. Lives are lost too soon, families are left without parents, spouses, and siblings, and yet, there is nothing we can do about it. There are no preventative measures, no vaccinations, no cure-all pill. You sit, and you wait, and you watch helplessly as it overtakes your loved one.

Having been touched by the illness himself, Seth Rogan took up a new role yesterday afternoon on the marble floors of the U.S. Capitol. He laid aside his funny man persona, and, instead, delivered a breathtakingly beautiful speech to Congress on how he watched as his mother-in-law slowly succumbed to the disease. Rogan encourages the members to do more, to act faster, to fight harder. Alzheimer’s is a silent killer. One that needs to be stopped.

Watch Rogan’s speech below — and grab the tissues.
