On the night of August 29th, Michael Long, an 18-year-old freshman business administration major at Louisiana State University, allegedly physically assaulted a woman at the Kappa Alpha fraternity house. I’m all for feminism, but a man just beat a woman. He punched her in the face several times, and no matter how equal we are, that will never be okay. According to The Daily Reveille, the police report stated that “The victim’s injuries included a fractured nose, gashes between the eyes that required seven stitches and bruising on the face around the nose and right cheek” and that “The victim was advised after two medical examinations that her fracture would require surgery.”
Long was arrested and charged with second degree battery on September 4; he was released on $5000.00 bail the same day. What remains a little cloudy is if Long was a pledge of Kappa Alpha at the time of the incident. According to The Advocate, “a spokesman for KA’s national office said Long ‘is not a member of Kappa Alpha Order and will not be a member.’” The spokesman additionally said that the chapter has been suspended while the incident is being investigated and is cooperating with police and university officials..
