Student Falls Out Of Third-Story MIT Frat House Window

Matt West

The beginning of the school year is always full of all sorts of hijinks. It’s like after three months (or 18 years) of living with your parents, you’re finally free and you decide to rebel, but only when they’re an hour or two away, and all they can do is yell at you during an unpleasant, 15-minute phone call. Last year, we had tons of scandals and debauchery, 50 percent of which seemed to come from Arizona State University, but everyone else had their time to shine hang their heads in shame in front of the world, too.

Last year at MIT, a school known for the bright minds of its students, suffered a horrible incident in which a student fell four stories from a fraternity’s rooftop. Well, actually the student fell through the rooftop–more specifically through the plexiglass skylight on the rooftop, where he was jumping up and down on. But, like I said, smart kids at MIT.

Falling through windows at frat houses (the new “Riding in Cars with Boys”) seems to be MIT’s new fall tradition, despite the citywide ban on parties following last year’s accident. This time, “a student not affiliated with MIT” attended a rush party at Lambda Chi Alpha Sunday night. At 11:30 p.m., she fell out a third-story window and suffered “non-life-threatening injuries” according to police.
