In case you missed it, we’re single. Every once in a while, depending on the day, we may be sad, lonely, angry, or bitter about it. We do know one thing, though. Music always helps pick us up–well, except when we hear what used to be “our song” on the radio and we practically punch the radio buttons so we don’t have to listen to it, which could cause us to burst into tears while driving.
Luckily, there are some recent great songs out that make us feel better about the whole breakup situation. They remind us that we’ll be alright (eventually) with a little hope and confidence. We thought it was only fair to share them with you, as well as some classics, to get you through this.
“Girls Chase Boys” by Ingrid Michaelson
There are a lot of us who have experienced broken hearts, and we’re still here with hearts still beating. In the most logical way, this is comforting. We’ll get through it…or die from heartbreak. Whichever.
“Rescue” by Yuna
Recognizing that things were bad and that you made the right decision to break it off? Go, you! There’s life and happiness in you yet, if you overcome those fears. You’ll be okay. You don’t need to be rescued by Prince Charming. You can rescue yourself.
“Survivor” by Destiny’s Child
A strong reminder that you can take care of yourself. You’re a strong, smart, courageous woman. You aren’t going to trash talk your ex (well, not sober, anyway). You’re better than that. Be positive.
“Problem” by Ariana Grande And Iggy Azalea
Sometimes you need to remind yourself about the bad parts of your relationship to really get over it. It’s easy to look back and see those relationships through rose-colored glasses, but if it didn’t work, remember those problems and that you have one less now.
“Fighter” by Christina Aguilera
What could make you feel better (and him feel worse) than thanking your ex for making you a better person? You’re a stronger person because of it.
“Dancing On My Own” by Robyn
We don’t really recommend you going to the club and watching your old flame dance with his new girl, but we DO recommend you going out and dancing with your girlfriends all night. Be yourself, have a great time, don’t worry about what anyone else is thinking, and watch the guys flock over.
“Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson
Keep the dance party going with this one and embrace the feeling of being alone, but not lonely. It sucks sometimes, but there are lots of great things you can do by yourself, too, and you don’t need to worry about anyone else’s needs.
“Pursuit of Happiness” by Lissie (Kid Cudi Cover)
Do what you want–there’s no one there to tell you otherwise. Don’t let anyone get in the way of your happiness and goals. If you don’t put yourself first, who will? We also kind of like the aggressive cursing in this song if we’re in “angry single woman” mode.
“Miss Movin’ On” by Fifth Harmony
You’ve survived, and you’re over the worst of the post-breakup trauma. You’ve grown with your last relationship and evolved into a new woman, ready to move on. So where are you heading, Match or Tinder?
“Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” by Beyonce
No single ladies list is complete without this song. It’s basically our anthem. For real. We blast it and do the dance, all in a reminder of what our exes could have had if they had gotten their shit together…ever.
