Today is a very sad day indeed. According to reports all over the internet, Alan Rickman, who played some of the best characters of all time, has passed away due to cancer. Though he was only 69-years-old, he accomplished so very, very much. He was in movies such as Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility, Truly Madly, Deeply, Love Actually, Sweeney Todd, and Alice in Wonderland. But, most of all, he played one of the most complex, mind-blowing, tear-your-heart-out characters of all time: Severus Snape.
In addition to being the good guy, the enemy, the traitor, the spy, and the hero, he was also part of one of the most dazzling and heart-breaking love stories ever written.
And so, as we move forward (and in case you’re not crying yet), a few quotes from the series that couldn’t be more accurate at this moment.
From The Harry Potter series:
- Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
- You think the dead we loved ever truly leave us? You think that we don’t recall them more clearly than ever in times of great trouble?
- It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.
- Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love.
- After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.
- Albus Severus Potter, you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew.
And the queen herself, speaking out about his talent.
There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman's death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.

My thoughts are with Rima and the rest of Alan's family. We have all lost a great talent. They have lost part of their hearts.
