As we go on, we remember, all the times we, had together.
- Using the money from your after school job on things you actually wanted instead of bills.
- Formals are great, but nothing can top prom.
- The first boy who said he loved you.
- The first boy who broke your heart, who was usually the same boy.
- Asshole.
- Being able to see your family every day.
- A fully. Stocked. Fridge.
- High school parties.
- Throwing a high school party and getting away with it.
- Throwing a high school party and getting caught. #grounded.
- Thinking it was awesome when you scored some liquor from your parent’s cabinet.
- Football games against the rival high school.
- How being on yearbook staff was just an excuse to use all of your own pictures.
- Making out in the back seat of the car.
- Making out in the movie theater.
- Making out in the school hallway.
- Basically just making out, because making out was, like, super cool.
- Being afraid you were going to get hazed on the first day of ninth grade.
- Not being able to spend the night with any guy any time, so it was a rush when you got away with it.
- Sneaking out of the house and not getting caught.
- Or sneaking someone in the house and knowing you are a BAMF.
- Myspace.
- Switching from Myspace to Facebook, but insisting you wouldn’t really use it that much.
- Going all out for your spirit week costumes in practice for socials.
- We finally understood how great Aaron’s party was.
- Thinking you were going to marry your high school boyfriend.
- Thinking you were going to marry your high school boyfriend and changing your status to “engaged.”
- The angst of being asked to Homecoming.
- Having a “little” on the cheer or dance team and KNOWING you had to be in a sorority.
- Making a pact with your friends to keep your virginities until you all turn 16.
- Then hating the one who broke it.
- Slut.
- Brace face, don’t want to talk about it.
- Your friends being closer to you than your family.
- Having that one security guard who you’d wave to when you drive by, skipping class.
- LOL. Promise rings.
- Sitting next to the Spanish speaking kid in Spanish class because, like, no hablo.
- If you were in IB (#humblebrag) using the statement “IB, therefore I BS” regularly.
- Waking up at 4 a.m. to start a paper due in first period.
- Learning the power of coffee.
- Visiting your current college campus, knowing it was the place you wanted to be.
- Thinking there was no way you were going to pass the SAT.
- Most likely because you skipped your SAT class.
- And let’s be real, it was for a boy.
- Getting a thick envelope from your school and realizing college was actually going to happen.
- Listening to “Graduation” with your best friends and crying.
- Promising that you would never lose touch with those who meant the most to you.
- Reading this now and recalling just how life-changing high school was. Remembering the friends who you haven’t talked to in years, but swore you’d never lose touch with and smiling at the amazing memories you had, with the promise of many more to come. Even though our lives have changed…well, you know. #WeWillStillBeFriendsForever
