Twitter Is Finally Going To Let You Retweet Yourself

Twitter

I must admit, I’m a Twitter addict. I get all excited when I think of something witty to tweet, but then comes the utter disappointment when I can’t @ someone or add a funny gif because it’s over 140 characters. Never mind that I can’t retweet myself later on to update something hilarious I said three weeks ago.

But, thankfully, it would seem that the Twitter gods have heard our pleas, and are planning on making some changes over the next few months that will help us be even more hilar on the interwebs. Jack Dorsey, Twitter CEO and co-founder told Newswire:

One of the biggest priorities for this year is to refine our product and make it simpler. We’re focused on making Twitter a whole lot easier and faster. This is what Twitter is great at – what’s happening now, live conversation and the simplicity that we started the service with.” We’re not giving up on the idea of Twitter being in the moment. That concept of brevity, speed and live conversation – being able to think of something and put it out to the world instantly – that’s what’s most important. We’re always going to look for opportunities to make Tweets a lot more expressive, and enable people to say what they want to say. As long as things are fast, easy, simple and expressive, we’re going to look at what we can do to make Twitter a better experience.

So what’s going to be coming to Twitter? The highlights:

The ability to Retweet and Quote Tweet yourself.
So in three months, I’ll be able to retweet this and share that I’m still not getting laid? Perf.

Photos, videos, and GIFs won’t count towards the 140 character limit.
Because sometimes your gifs just need an explanation (and sometimes they don’t).

In reply tweets, @names and links won’t count towards the 140 character limit.
COME ON! GIVE ME MORE ROOM TO WORK WITH OKAY?!

You won’t need to add a period before new tweets beginning with an @name.
No more embarrassing dots at the start of a Tweet just so people can see you bash your friends all over the internet.

You just get us, Twitter.
