I’m just going to give it to you straight and break your heart as quickly as possible so it can begin to mend itself. This is the last year that Victoria’s Secret plans to sell swimwear. The brand had lower than expected sales on bathing suits last year, and has elected to move on from the “risky” business and instead expand its activewear line.
VS plans to reorganize into three divisions where executives believe they can dominate: Victoria’s Secret lingerie, Victoria’s Secret beauty, and the Pink brand.
This seems ludicrous to me, because no one fucking buys beauty products from Victoria’s Secret. We have other havens for that re: Sephora, and maybe Ulta if the black and white stripes are out of reach. I love me a good sweatpants moment from Pink, but frankly, I can buy my yoga pants anywhere. Okay, well not anywhere, but lulu already owns the activewear line, so like. Why is this happening?
What does this mean for us, besides the certainty that Target can expect swimsuit sales to go up? Where are we supposed to go? here else are we supposed to shop? And also, why the fuck do we need more workout gear? We can get that anywhere.
I’m disappointed. And I’m heartbroken. And I don’t know how I’ll move on. But I do know I’m about to book it to VS to get swimsuits before it’s too late..
