If you’ve ever wanted to sit on the famous couch at Central Perk, have a cup of coffee with Ross, Chandler, Phoebe, Monica, Joey, and what’s-her-name with the haircut, and you’re in New York City this fall, you’re in luck. (Except for the characters being there. They’re fictional.)
NBC, your favorite network from 1998, is opening a popup replica of the famous coffee shop, Central Perk, from “Friends.” It will be in SoHo from Sept. 17 to Oct. 18 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show, as if you didn’t feel old enough already. The shop will serve free cups of Eight O’Clock Coffee, including a limited-edition Central Perk Roast, specially created for the celebration. It’ll be just like the show, except the cast will prrrrrobably not be anywhere near the madhouse that this publicity stunt will no doubt turn out to be.
The popup Perk will also feature props from the show, including the iconic orange couch, and Gunther is even set to make a few appearances, because, well, James Michael Tyler probably needs the money. There will also be live musical performances and opportunities to win and buy “Friends” merchandise.
…because nobody can coast or capitalize on the ’90s better than NBC and look damn good while doing it.
