Your Straight Friends Miiiight Be Having Gay Sex, Just FYI

Sexuality identity is weird. Some people think that you’re either gay or straight, and those are your only options. Other people think that sexuality is on a scale, and you can be “mostly straight” or “mostly gay” or whatever variant of the two. And then some people think that you just do what you wanna do when you wanna do it. Who cares what they have in the undercarriage, as long as they’re taking you for a hell of a ride.

Recently, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a study sharing some pretty interesting things about what we’re doing behind closed doors. More than that, they told the secret of who we’re doing them with.

They polled over 9,000 people in the good ol’ US of A between the ages of 18–44 to see who, exactly, we’re getting it on with. And guess what? Just because people are identifying as “straight” is doesn’t mean that they don’t sample the gay lifestyle every now and again. Here’s how it all breaks down.

From Pink News:

Among women who reported themselves as heterosexual or straight 12.6% of women had ever had same-sex sexual contact.
Among women who reported themselves as heterosexual or straight 2.8% of men had ever had same-sex sexual contact.
Among people who identify as gay or bisexual 89.7% of women have had opposite-sex sexual contact.
Among people who identify as gay or bisexual 67.9% of men have had opposite-sex sexual contact.

In total, 17.4% of young women reported same-sex sexual contact in their lifetime, compared to just 6.2% of men. Men were also more likely to insist they have feelings of attraction “only to the opposite sex.”

The ~sexy study~ also dove into anal sex, because why not? Basically, the ladies who said they were “mostly” attracted to guys (but hey, maybe they would snag a finger, who knows?), which makes up over half of the females studied, were more likely to have tried buttstuff than the women who were only attracted to men. But wait! Women who identified as homosexual or bi were more likely to have had anal sex with a guy than straight girls.

WHAT IS GOING ON?!

Basically what it comes down to is that, as the study says, “sexual attraction and sexual orientation correlate closely but not completely with reports of sexual behaviour.” It goes to show, however, that it seems like guys are less likely to experiment with partners of the same gender. Maybe it’s society. Maybe it’s just becuase girls are naturally prettier (hair flip). Whatever it is, we’re more likely to have a DFMO with someone of the same gender.

At the end of it all, just because you say you like pizza, it doesn’t mean you won’t snag yourself some pasta every now and again. Or maybe you only ate pasta before realizing how much you liked pizza. Food metaphores aside, just because you’re “straight” it doesn’t mean you’re in this closed little sexual box. If you’ve experiemented before (or want to) just know that you’re not alone in the slightest. As long as you’re getting off, having fun, and being safe who cares what pieces (or batteries) you’re using?
