Three months ago, we got word of the so-bad-it’s-good TV series,Scream Queens. From the creators of Glee and American Horror Story, we have a film that is actually a strange combination of Glee and American Horror Story. It looks hilarious.
The show, airing September 15, stars Emma Roberts and Jamie Lee Curtis. We’ll also see cameos of Ariana Grande and Nick Jonas. No doubt, I’m excited.
But more exciting is the news that Emma Roberts’ character is actually based on a real live sorority girl — former sorority girl. Your favorite and mine, Rebecca Martinson, the girl who penned that “deranged” email back in 2013. From The Wrap:
The email came from a sorority sister at Delta Gamma sorority’s University of Maryland chapter, and went viral in April 2013. It contained an expletive-filled, racist and homophobic rant about how members of the sorority were supposed to behave.
“We were interested in mirroring that idea,” said Murphy. “Unlike that girl, who apologized and resigned, we wanted to bring our queen bee character to some sort of awareness about her behavior.”
It’s safe to say that she’s not actually based on Rebecca Martinson, but rather, the public’s perception of Rebecca Martinson. When Martinson’s email was first leaked, the public thought “deranged sorority girl.” Most actual sorority girls though “I gave that exact speech three times on Tuesday.”.
