Maisie Williams Nudes Were Leaked

It seems like everyone in Hollywood has had a nude photo scandal. The problem is, as Jennifer Lawrence puts it “It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime.” She said this after her own nude photos were released in 2014. The latest star to be targeted by hackers? Nineteen-year-old Maisie Williams, a star of the wildly popular television show Game of Thrones.

The photos were apparently taken during her recent trip to Japan, where the young actress went to raise attention about the brutalities of marine animal shows, showing that no good deed goes unpunished. Williams posed topless on a rock during a break from saving the dolphins, and posted the photos on what appears to be a private social media account (like Facebook). Some are quick to say that if she didn’t want the photos circulated, she shouldn’t have posted them in the first place. However, it’s important to note that these were shared on her private account, and thus, were stolen. The hacker who distributed this photo had to break down security barriers in order to get them, and then maliciously shared these photos with the rest of the world, obviously without the teenager’s consent.

Listen – I am sure that we all have some embarrassing photos, whether they be on our phones, or our social media pages. There’s a reason that your Instagram account is private, or you blocked your mom from seeing your Snapchat story, or that you changed your name on Facebook when you decided that you needed an adult job. We’ve all sent a nude, an embarrassing snap to our best friend (are you even friends if you haven’t sent a “who did I just wake up beside?” morning after picture), and posed for a bar photo where you can tell how many tequila shots you’ve had. Hell, maybe you’ve just posed topless (maybe on a rock?) because it makes you feel empowered AF. Does that make you a bad person? No. Does that mean that you necessarily want your grandma, future employers and the rest of the world seeing? Absolutely not.

Williams is young, hot, and slays in everything she’s cast in. There is so much more to her than this nude photo. Instead of fueling the hacker by checking out the leaked photos, or slut shaming the actress for having the photos to begin with, focus on the fact that a crime was committed against a girl who seems like a pretty cool person..
