In news that is not exactly surprising, a new study conducted by the National Union of Students in the United Kingdom found that that over half of college students watch porn. But the reason why they are watching actually is a bit shocking. According to the study, over 60 percent of students surveyed said that they watch porn, not for personal pleasure, but instead to “learn more about sex and to fill in gaps in their sexual education.”
Holy shit. Let’s think about this for a minute. Learning about sex by watching porn is pretty much like learning about operating a firearm by watching an action movie. You get all of the really awesome action scenes and none of the scenes where someone jams the gun, shoots himself in the foot, or – God forbid – runs out of bullets.
The bottom line is that porn is a fantasy, and fantasies are supposed to be unrealistic. As such, they certainly shouldn’t be used for education. Real sex is amazing, but it’s usually nowhere near the porn-like fantasy – in real life, not all women are waxed, guys sometimes can’t get it up, spit is not an adequate lubricant, and it usually requires more than a dude simply dropping his pants to get a girl hot. And never mind the whole orgasm thing. So to whoever that 60 percent is, I beg you, please stop watching porn to educate yourself and get out there and experience it in real life. You’ll definitely screw (pun intended) it up, but at least you won’t have unrealistic expectations.
