This article definitely scares people into thinking that having an embolism is a common thing.. In reality, it isn’t as common as people think, but it is important to be aware of your body and know the signs of one. This girl presented to her doctor with shortness of breath and SHOOTING pains in her legs — these are major signs of an embolism.. This is completely her doctors fault, if he was a decent doctor he would know that those signs were a potential complication of taking birth control pills. All birth control pills come with an information sheet about the complications of taking this medication so just stay informed. For a normal woman taking birth control, the risks are small — one (or less) in 3,000. But with certain other medical conditions or family history, your risk can go up. So again, just know your body and your risks.
