What a terrible move by both the Smith girl and the writer of this article. The “justification” that the writer uses here not only backs up a shameful attempt to marginalize gays, but reinforces the perception of sororities as a paid-for way to party and get laid. At my school, we work extremely hard to promote a positive image for our chapter and for panhellenic. To agree that a sorority should be founded so girls can “find some friends who can help find someone to penetrate her and talk about it after” negates anything we, as sorority girls, try to do to promote our values of sisterhood, service and charity. I joined my sorority to gain sisters – straight or gay – not to get guys. I can do that on my own.
