Seems like that offended you. So being offended by someone making a demeaning comment towards your looks is fine, but being offended by something someone says about your race/ethnicity/culture is being overly-sensitive?

Another thing: considering the author of this article is the “director” of TSM, I’m really not surprised your column submission was rejected.

I love this. You summed up exactly how I, along with hopefully most people, feel about this situation so eloquently. Interestingly, the author of this article didn’t mention at all what happened soon after Ashley posted her tweet. Current and former members of Tri Delt at USF attacked her harassed her online. She was called a “dumb b****”, “pathetic”, and “sad” by girls who were supposed to be her “sisters” just days before. One sister even said “I’m sure all 207 of your followers enjoyed your anti-racism campaign, you can go back to being irrelevant now.” Those tweets were of course deleted once the sorority realized their reputation was at stake. Not a single kind word from any current member or alum was tweeted to Ashley. But once posts on FB and other social media were made by others (NOT Ashley) that made them look bad, THEN the Tri Delts really sprung into action by sending nice messages and making nice comments, which I’m guessing was a way to try and guilt her and others into deleting their respective posts. The actions of some USF Tri Delta members both BEFORE and AFTER Ashley posted her tweet show that the true issue at hand (racism in Greek life) is the last of their concerns.

In addition to completely missing the point and also just being poorly-written in general, this article failed to mention the storm of harassment Ashley received for her post on twitter from BOTH current and former members of Tri Delta at USF. I can provide screenshots of that if necessary, I have plenty :). She was called a “dumb bitch”, “pathetic”, “attention-seeking”, among other things I’d rather not repeat. “The sisters of Tri Delta may have said some things they shouldn’t have, but they very clearly did not have malicious intentions. Ashley Carter did.” They didn’t have malicious intentions when some of them tried to bully her into keeping quiet?? What a joke. It’s also just embarrassing in general that you’re sitting here writing an article criticizing a person who brought attention to instances of ignorance and racism, rather than writing what would be a much more productive article on the presence of racism and stereotyping in Greek life. You should take this article down and issue Ashley Carter an apology.
