Really? You can’t fathom why someone wouldn’t want to get legally involved in a kind of case that is notoriously lengthy, expensive, and difficult to prosecute? The burden of evidence is so high for rape cases (and criminal trials are emotionally taxing at best, traumatizing at worst), it’s far easier to just work through the university within their own justice system. Keep in mind criminal cases can extend for years, and may be impossible to conclude after the victim graduates and moves.

And PSA: accusations don’t ruin lives. Convictions do– and only sometimes.

You do realize your brother is a part of the *2-3%* of cases that are false reports, rights? Statistically, that almost never happens, and statistically there’s absolutely no way he’s going to get convicted, much less have his life ruined. So contrary to what you might believe, the number of actual victims this would harm FAR outnumbers the amount of girls who are “flat out fucking lying.” You also don’t have to seem to have read the actual article, because rescinding support of this bill doesn’t actually do anything. It hasn’t gone into effect yet, so if it doesn’t pass, nothing changes. It will continue to be outrageously difficult to prosecute rapists. Hope you’re happy.
