Unfortunately, they have fed you some skewed information (shocker). Regarding the first attempt at the “betterment of their image,” apparently some, if not most, of the removal of the 16 members from the fraternity was simply a volunteered-disaffiliation of seniors who were going to graduate or were not involved in the frat anyway. Regarding the second attempt, every chapter participates in TerpThon – their participation is not very distinguishing considering their paired sorority most likely raised most (if not all) of the funds. Also, most chapters sponsor about two philanthropies and co-sponsor many more, as every chapter should. Per the fourth attempt – their pledge class actually had the second worst GPA in the IFC with a sub 2. With that being said, this nullifies their fifth attempt. Sixth attempt – they had no other option. Seventh attempt – no chapter should be involved with fights or vandalism either way, the fact that this is an accomplishment for them says a lot in itself. As for the last attempt – every chapter should/is supposed to have someone from headquarters to review their respective chapter at least once each fall/spring semester as most chapters already do. It’s unfortunate, however it’s an agreed upon consensus that this fraternity sponsors a culture that does not reflect the Maryland Greek system’s values nor even their own. This is good a move, which will preserve the academic and cultural integrity of the system and PNM’s that are interested in rushing.
