If these people seriously feel that they are being disrespected because of a party, then they need a god damn reality check. We live in a society where we feel that we need to change everything and go out of our way to to make sure that we don’t offend one single person or group. We NEED a society where if you’re offended by something, you suck it the fuck up and don’t complain until you get your way. Unless it is causing violence and physical harm to you or is a serious hate crime, grow the fuck up.
I will NOT change a tradition or even take seriously a complaint as stupid as “no palm trees because it’s offensive”. How the actual god damn fuck do they think they have the power and authority to tell someone they can’t have a tropical themed party? Do they really have a stick that far up their ass? It pisses me off more than I can even put into words the sense of entitlement they feel they should have. For every exception we make and every change in tradition so please one group, we become weaker and more pussified as a society. I hate it.
And just for fun, here’s a rundown of how I can see those alternative party themes you mentioned being offensive:
Nerds — The computer science club will complain they are being targeted and made fun of
Stoplight — Some color-blind person will be offended that this is targeting them
80’s — Some professor will claim they are inaccurately portraying what the 80’s were really like and recommend we research more before we deface their youths
Ugly Christmas Sweater — AEPhi wouldn’t be too happy about this one
Celebrity — Feminists will complain that we shouldn’t try to dress like and look like the super skinny and fake girls in the media
Hippies — Some wannabe ‘free love’ idiot will complain that this is oppressing
Kentucky Derby — PETA club activists will be all over this one
Toga — Someone will claim their great ancestors would be offended and want it shut down in their honor
Obviously these are satirical (even though somewhat of a possibility), but if you honestly think we should sit down and talk about every little stupid concern that anyone ever brings up, you must be out of your god damn mind. I think FIJI should celebrate this party twice as hard now and make sure they are as tropical as they can be.
