  • FratFamReppin 8 years ago on Northwestern Freshman Considers Recruitment Hazing, Yes, Seriously

As someone who has been through the recruitment process on both sides (as a PNM and as a sorority member), at Mizzou, where I believe we have the 2nd largest recruitment next to Alabama, I have a few things to say to this girl. 1. Girls get cut for more then “we didn’t like you.” We look at GPA (my sorority has a national and local standard that ALL members have to adhere too), we look at involvement on campus or in high school and we look to make sure that their values match ours. For example, a girl could say whatever she wanted to my face but her social media posts about under-age drinking or doing drugs, is not going to fly. We also look to our members for recomendations. 2. You don’t just talk to one girl. Depending on how long your parties last at each house, there is a system in place where you talk to several different girls in the house. Some of those girls are going to have different opinions on you, which is WHY we have you talk to multiple members. Not everyone is going to get along but we want to make sure that you can get along with the majority of the house. 3. If it wasn’t in the winter, it would be in the summer and you would be complaining about 100 degree weather. Get over it. It’s so that the girls you’re about to meet, have time to prepare for you. 4. YOU’RE exhausted? Girl. Us sorority members have homework, jobs, internships, philanthropy duties and about 2000 (where I was going to school at least) PNM’s to impress. It’s my job to make sure that my PNM doesn’t hate my sorority. Stress didn’t even cover how I felt during recruitment. You’re worried about representing yourself and I’m worried about representing my entire national organization to you. I cried every day of work week and recruitment. Once again I say, get over yourself.
Recruitment isn’t hazing or being mean. It’s about finding a place that holds true to your values. I’m sorry that you didn’t find your home but making baseless claims like this hurts the system where girls DO find their homes.
