I appreciate this so much. I too am the only black girl in my sorority – and one of very few black girls in Panhel on my campus. But what I’ve found is that representation is SO important. One of the main reasons I was hesitant to rush to begin with is because I didn’t think I would fit in, simply because I didn’t see anyone like me. But I took the chance anyway, and since then I’ve had countless minority women approach and contact me wanting to hear about my experiences and requesting information. I feel proud and honored that I can represent minority women in Panhel. And I totally have been in the “slightly racist sisters” boat, but I use those instances as an opportunity to educate those sisters and give them a little insight into my world. Luckily, I was blessed with some of the most supportive, open-minded sisters who are always willing to listen. I got so excited when I saw this column posted and I absolutely loved reading it. You are wonderful!
