I’m not sure how you define elder, but I’m 32 and not a critic of Greek life. My letter was written because I’m not being allowed to support Greek life. I minimize my efforts because there must be some other issue more pressing than my wearing of Fraternity letters. If hazing, substance abuse and sexual assualt are not issues (great news by the way), perhaps they could focus efforts on philanthropy or community service. There must be some issue or use of our time more important than stopping me from wearing a Fraternity jersey. Or are you saying this is the most pressing matter in the Greek workd? I get the feeling we’ll never agree on this which is perfectly okay. In the words of Ron Burgundy, “Agree to disagree”.

I appreciate you posting this article referencing my letter to NPC opposing UAX. Amazing how media can help generate awareness. As mentioned, I do take the issue seriously, but there are far more pressing matters than an alumnae woman wearing Sigma Chi letters. NPC should be focused on preventing sexual assault and substance abuse. Also to clarify, UAX does not prevent Panhellenic women from being Sweethearts. However, it does change the role we can play.

I do believe NPC should be educating our members to respect themselves enough to prevent behavior leading to photos of half naked girls holding a Rush banner (we are presuming these girls are NPC members?). However, they have implemented a policy based on protecting our sole-sex status yet it borders on sexual-discrimination. This is a strange way to honor those who fought so hard to defeat such oppression. Bottom line, if I help promote the idea of joining a Fraternity, how exactly does that threaten our single-sex status?

Below is a link to read the full letter with some recommendations for those interested.
