I agree with Sistersrat… What’s really wrong here is a bunch of women trying to make “everyone is beautiful” claims, and instead of saying that, they trash “skinny bitches,” as though the only acceptable body type is curvy. Nicki is the one being spoiled, jealous and close-minded here.
You may be right, I’m not sure what the stats are on people changing their minds, Tuco. Maybe you didn’t want to change her mind, I don’t know. I was just saying, good work. Way to have an opinion and be able to explain it thoroughly. It’s refreshing. The Internet is full of people who are horrendous at arguing, unlike you.
Tuco, you certainly put a great deal of time and effort into this site, and I applaud you for caring. I hope that you’re making the change in people that you want to make, and to be fair I don’t always disagree with you, but this is simply not a matter you are going to change anyone’s opinion about. Do you think you just inspired Jo to have kids? You didn’t. But you know, thank you for caring, and thank you for being eloquent. An opinion is better than apathy, and eloquence is better than threats, immaturity, and ignorance. This goes for all outspoken people, because it means something to someone that their opinion is heard. At least you’re putting an effort into discussion.
The reason educators are not paid more than they are has absolutely nothing to do with the ratio of male to female teachers. That’s ridiculous. It has everything to do with the fact that getting a degree in ENGINEERING is a little bit more challenging than getting a degree in elementary education. Want to make more money? Go learn a skill that few people have. Like engineering. Or medicine. Here’s the thing about education: it’s a job that not everyone can do. But it has less to do with education and more to do with compassion than most jobs, and you don’t need eight years of education to be compassionate. Teachers (most of them) are absolutely fantastic people. But in our world, you will be paid for the work you do. In addition to that, you have to understand that teachers are paid by the government. The government is paid by taxes. Taxes are paid by the people. Increase taxes? That’s a short road to zero votes in office.
My point is this: the fact that teachers are paid smaller wages has NOTHING to do with “sexism,” and to say so is causing a conflict that we don’t need to have in our society. Not trying to argue, I just want to point out that it’s insulting to say that my road to being a physician is comparable to the road I would take to be a kindergarten teacher. Not only that, it’s socialistic.
I LOVE THIS. I love that you said it’s about what you see in the mirror, not on the scale, because that is 100% true. I always say “Wouldn’t it be cool if I weighed 300 pounds?” and get all of these looks like I’m insane. But think about it. If I, tall skinny girl, actually weighed 300 pounds, I would be a legend. I would be living proof that unless you’re going to be on top, it really doesn’t matter how much you weigh, just how you look, and how healthy you are. What it comes down to is your happiness. Also, if I had a dollar for every person whose lap I hurt with my skinny ass, I’d have enough to get a boob job for my flat chest.
Love this! Brutal honesty and truth at its finest. If only every girl had this attitude, perhaps we wouldn’t have angry people who feel like they’re being “wronged” all the time. And finally, someone who isn’t afraid to say the words “fat” and “skinny,” because those are real words and women need to accept the body type the have or change their habits to get the one they want. Awesome column!
Call me a prude, but I completely disagree. “Have mercy on the less sound of mind,” and “one tiny drunken mistake,” are extremely poor points if you really want Standards to take you seriously. You CHOSE to be less sound of mind, and you chose to be drunk. Unless you want to be treated like a child, you are responsible for your choices. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for having fun, and sometimes that includes drinking. But with your right to drink comes your personal responsibility for having some self control. It’s called Standards for a reason, and that is that sorority women hold themselves to a higher standard. Don’t do trashy things, and you won’t be written up. It’s not difficult.
You go, Tuco.
I’m not sure why you two are getting so many down-votes here.. As far as I’m concerned you hit the nail on the head.

I’m so happy I live in AMERICA where we can have shirts that say whatever we want them to. Good Lord, these uptight liberals can get OUT.
RT
It would suck to be your best friend, since apparently it’s so difficult for you to be happy for a friend. Wow.
Good Lord, 1955 was a time to be alive..

“I can’t remember my name.”
I just died laughing. So precious.
Exactly what I was about to put. Maybe it could be painted over and put a “4”?

“Four inches uglier” is about the best thing I’ve ever heard. Totally relate.

God made sex for us to enjoy, did He not? Essentially you’re praising God. Which is good.
