While it’s terrible to say something nasty about any of your sisters, it’s worse to talk that way about women in your own chapter. THAT is what I find disgusting.

    So Nice said:

Ladies, what are your fall wardrobe staples? It doesn’t really start cooling off here until late September or early October, but I am so excited that stores are starting to get their fall shipments in! How do you start transitioning your outfits into fall when its still hot outside?

I always look forward to clearing and organizing my wardrobe.Start by seeing what you have already and what you need/want to buy. Light- to medium-weight cardigans are a must to pair with your neutral colored sundresses so that you can wear them longer. Styles that drape or close only partially with a tie, hook-and-eye, etc. will seem more appropritae, and you can still layer them when the weather cools further. Basic espadrilles can look nice with casual attire and give you some coverage without being too hot. An easy thing to transition is your nail polish; just go for cooler, darker shades of what you already wear. Button-downs and small plaid (not Madras) remind me of school uniforms, and therefore autumn, so try working them in with lighter fabrics and summer colors. Happy shopping!

You all are making me nostalgic. I used to ride when I was young, but then we moved and it wasn’t an option anymore. One of my best childhood memories is how proud I felt when I could finally get on and off my horse by myself. Are you ever too old to take it up again?

Fishing=TSM. My summer plans include a lot of bass fishing at my grandfather’s lake.

Thank you SigmaSweet for this discussion! I have been wanting to hear what y’all have to say about all kinds of fads! And thank you Glitter_and_Pearls for the perfume question! I was wondering the same thing! I’m looking for a new scent but I can’t decide! There are too many to choose from! But I do love my Amazing Grace too, 1874SocietyGirl. So for right now I’m just sticking with that.
Also, what are y’all’s favorite nail colors for Summer 2011? What do y’all think about the Pirate collection by OPI? Are y’all liking that or Essie’s Brazialiant collection better?
And what size pearls do you all wear? Where I am from, a lot of girls love to wear huge pearls but I don’t know if that is just a regional thing? Are you all into the regular size or the larger ones? Maybe you all think that the bigger the pearl the more money you have, but I have never thought of it like that. Thanks in advance for the advice and help!
Thank you all so much for creating such a great TSM community!

This probably isn’t sratty at all, but for perfume I’ve found that I really like essential oils. When it’s hot out, regular perfume feels so sticky. Plus it’s a great way to see which individual scents suit your body chemistry. I agree with Pink1874 that you should have a signature scent, but I haven’t found mine yet. I’ve been wearing neroli oil lately, but the next real perfume I’ll get might be Calvin Klein Beauty.
I don’t like the huge pearls, especially earrings. I’d make an exception for teardrop-shaped earrings for formal occasions, but I doubt that’s what you mean. Big pearls are too showy, which defeats the purpose of wearing pearls. Quality over quantity. More important than diameter though is to match the strand to your neckline.
I prefer lighter nail colors because I stay relatively pale even with a tan, so I really like the OPI collection, especially the seafoam green color. Essie’s Super Bossa Nova is gorgeous too. What’s everyone’s take on the grey or beige colors that became popular recently?

Am I the only one who feels that all four of them are unlikeable? Miranda, despite being an unglamorous geed, is the best of them.

things i personally take issue with (and yes, i realized i will practically get jumped for some of these):

    yurman.
let’s be honest, we don’t wear yurman because it’s feminine or particularly attractive (mixing gold and silver? hmm), we wear it 60% for the gaudy but well-cut gems and 40% for conspicuous consumption. and also because kate moss rocked it in those yurman ads.
so if you’re wearing a skinny little cable bracelet with a sad seed pearl at the end, you’re playing the game wrong.
points back if you’re rocking, like, 5 of them as bangles, but really, the end of your cable bracelet should be strong enough to knock a hole in the side of a natty can for an impromptu shotgun.
the earrings can be great. the albion rings are ok. and anything onyx works for me.
anything in the “confetti” collection should be outlawed.

    lilly.
swimsuits – awesome. planners/iphone covers/accessories – awesome. murfee scarves – double awesome. lace dresses – triple awesome. and i can’t wait to see the new furniture collection.
but please, ladies, don’t overdo it.
just because it has that lp label doesn’t mean its a) attractive or b) classic.
suggestion: if you know that you’re going to an event where a lot of people are going to be wearing lilly (easter, summer wedding, horse races), make it a point NOT to wear lilly. “drunk clashing clones” should not be a synonym for “sorority women.”
and if you have a cup size larger than B, your momma should have already told you not to wear shift dresses. you will invariably find yourself photographed with a uniboob slug trapped under a loud print.
also, for me, lilly is cut too large to fit flatteringly, so i take issue with that as well.

    longchamp.
i love you, but i might love my jon hart more.

    j.crew.
perhaps it’s just my school, but EVERYONE wears j.crew and it bores me to tears. i like having people ask me where i got my clothes instead of just being able to recognize a poor imitation of the catalog look.

i also don’t understand the depth of discussion regarding brands of jeans on this thread.
just wear what fits. checking out the stitching on someone’s ass pocket in order to discern the brand seems incredibly high school to me.
    who. cares.

Thank you on Lilly. I love the lace or embroidered dresses, but I find the palette on some of the florals nauseating (i.e., ‘It Can Be Arranged) Those patchwork ones are awful.

I have a quick question, I have a string of black pearls from Fiji that my daddy bought for me, but idk what to wear them with or if they can be sratty. Help please :)

If I were you, I would reserve the black pearls for dressier outfits, probably darker colors and maybe certain brights. I bet they’d look cute if you wore a creme dress with a black belt or got a white cardigan with black detailing.

Chacos are clunky and not appealing. If you just need casual sandals, wear regular flip flops or Rainbows. It’s not necessarily a srat brand, but Aerosole makes cute shoes that are also really comfy and sturdy like these: http://www.aerosoles.com/product1.asp?P=SOULMATE (Not the blue so much as the other colors.)

The president of Vera Bradley is a Kappa Delta, so it has become their thing on my campus. I really like some of the patterns, but if I’m honest the quilting reminds me of a diaper bag. I’d rather carry a classic two-tone tote. Eventually I want one with my letters embroidered on it.

I didn’t start out liking Yurman because I preferred something more feminine, but I’ve definitely come around. Even if you can’t afford Yurman, interesting but sleek should be the sorority woman’s standard. For day to day, you can’t miss with a basic pendant.

Tie-dye, yes or no? I don’t wear it, but it’s popular at my college and some of my sisters have tie-dye stitch letters. Red and pink nail polish will always be acceptable, but what about other colors? Certain colors like yellow look cute with a tan if they are bright and not shimmery, but it’s easy to cross the line from a pretty pop of color to something hideous.

Before anyone jumps on me, I should not have put the first comma in the last sentence of the first paragraph. Okay!
