I go to school in the midwest (a big school) so we dress a little differently. Most of the suburban kids are very well off but there are not as many name brands as you might find in the SEC. Here you’ll find the typical Sperrys, Longchamp totes, Norts, Nike running shoes, and American Apparel tanks/vnecks. However there is a TON of Vera here. I really like some of the patterns and really hate some of the others. It’s definitely a regional thing. No one can deny that the ID holders and duffels are awesome. To survive the freezing cold winters you’ll see Northface fleeces/coats/vests, skinny jeans, leggings, yoga pants, and Uggs. Toms are also big but lots of GDIs have them too. Coach is not really popular here anymore. There are some Soffes but they are definitely more appropriate for the gym; Norts are better for class. Jewelry is simple earrings, pearls or a lavalier for a necklace. and a watch. Rings, particularly Claddagh rings, are also really popular. To look nicer for class I like to wear a darker wash jean and a cardigan and a fun necklace. Lots of students have to be business casual (the business program is really big here) so you’ll see a lot of dressed up students in J. Crew, Banana, Express (can be trashy but have really flattering suits), Ralph Lauren, etc.

I hope no one takes this as a signal to bash midwestern Greek life or call us all poor; there are many students who come from financially strong families and will go on to do very well for themselves. It’s just a different region. 🙂 Loved reading through this thread though… kinda makes me wish I went to school in the south! 😉

Oh and for nails I like OPI and my current perfume is Daisy by Marc Jacobs. Not particularly original, I know, but I just love the way it smells. Whenever I wear it one of my guy friends tells me I smell like a butterfly or flowers. Kind of a strange compliment, but kinda cute I guess! Haha

I know it’s been said many times but it’s just so true – Bare Minerals is the only way to go for face, particularly if you’re prone to acne or oily skin!
MAC is fantastic, great pigments. If you’re going to buy their eyeshadows, I’d recommend steering away from the Matte ones because they can look really heavy and don’t go on that easily. Something with more shimmer is much prettier! Be sure to buy their paint pot in a nice neutral color for priming. Makes the shadow last all day/night! Their liners and lip glass are also really good, and I recommend their Brow Set if you need to darken your eyebrows a bit.
Clinique eyeshadow is really nice for something a little lighter, also goes on faster than MAC but not quite as long-lasting.
For mascara I swear by Maybelline’s Falsies! Drug store mascara is the best!
I also use an Urban Decay eye pencil in this nice shimmery white for the inner corners of my eyes. Instantly brightens up the face. 🙂

I agree with some posts on here- The Great Gatsby, Separate Peace, and Catch-22 are all great! Catch-22 is a little hard to get through but worth it. I also recommend The Kite Runner, The Time Traveler’s Wife, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, the Gossip Girl books (very different from the TV show!), the A-List books (like Gossip Girl but in LA). I agree that Something Borrowed and Something Blue are both great. More chick lit… Eat, Pray, Love., Two-Way Street. All Jodi Piccoult, especially My Sister’s Keeper, House Rules, Handle With Care, and Nineteen Minutes. They’re all kind of heavy but great reads with some unforgettable endings. A Total Waste of Make-Up and its sequel, Misery Loves Cabernet, are also really cute and lesser-known chick lit. Both Tucker Max books (I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell and its sequel) are absolutely hilarious, as are all Chelsea Handler books. Marley and Me is fantastic if you don’t mind crying at the end. Sarah Dessen books are good, especially This Lullaby – one of my faves! I’m not going to lie, I love the Harry Potter series and I also read the Twilight series as a guilty pleasure. I’m taking The Help and Water for Elephants with me on vacation and I’d also like to get through The Hunger Games and History of Love. Can you tell I like to read? Don’t have as much time for it anymore 🙁 but my mom always taught me that the most intelligent people are the ones with a love for reading! 🙂

“A Great and Terrible Beauty”, “Rebel Angels”, and “The Sweet Far Thing” by Libba Bray are all a part of a three book series, and they are amazing. They have some supernatural elements so if you’re not into that you might not like them, but they are awesome books. If you’re looking for something a little more intense these are perfect, and they are really easy to read! You will not be able to put these down once you start.

I loved “A Great and Terrible Beauty”!! I haven’t read it in years, but I remember loving it. I’m personally more into comedy books during the summer, so I’ll def be looking into Chelsea Handler’s books. I LOVE everything by Aaron Karo, who started ruminations.com, and not going to lie “I Hope They Server Beer In Hell” is a guilty pleasure of mine. It makes workouts so much easier.

Tucker Max is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine! He’s just so funny! If you like him I’m sure you will like Chelsea Handler too 🙂

Anyone who says they can’t resist some Nutella every now and then has either never tried it or is lying. Snaps to you for eating what you like while keeping in shape, and not being sorry for it!
