The fallacy of this argument is that the writer ignores the blatant sexualization of young women and negates that sexual violence is not always physical. This article, as well as some of the comments, also contribute to the long societal standard of “boys will be boys” or the patriarchal excuse that men can be excused for their disgusting, deeming, and crude behavior because they are men. The whole article undermines what rape culture is: an oppressive societal standard that makes women out to be less than men and/or only viewed as sexual objects, IE what these signs implicate. Whether it be their intention or not to promote rape culture, they are tools in the struggle that leaves 95% of college rape cases unreported.

This chapter’s actions actively contributed to the negative stereotype against fraternities (again being highlighted in the media for all the bad and ignoring the good that they do). These men are deeming incoming female freshmen’s education by insinuating that these women are only there for them.

I would like to request that this author spend some more time reading about rape cultures from survivors before boiling it down to a bunch of people on twitter being unable to “take some;” because that’s exactly what someone who’s suffered by the hands of rape culture needs to hear.
