This is ridiculous. Honestly, I couldn’t care less what someone does to a flag. And, if I wanted to (I don’t), I would wear it as a “burrito” or a “cape”.
Why do people have to follow these rules? Does it make me less American? Do we have to swallow everything that America stands for? Fuck no. We should be critical and individual–that’s what America was founded on. Not hyper-zealous conformity and social homogeneity.
Yes, my parents fucked in California so I was conceived and born there, so I am considered an American. The States are cool. I’ve had a good life. Do I owe everything I have and stand for to the United States? No. Is the United Stares the greatest country in the world? No. Does that make me an asshole? No.
People need to chill the fuck out with all of these customs and rules and unquestioned, unconditional acceptance and religious-esque praise of any country or any flag. “Pledge allegiance to the flag”? Are you kidding? I’m not pledging allegiance to shit. That’s old-school, creepy, Nazi Germany, North Korea, kinda shit. I’m a human, I’ll pledge allegiance to my own morals, not the country in which I was randomly born into. There’s a lot of fucked up shit that the U.S. stands for–like 200,000 innocent civilians killed in the “War on Terror”–which I will never stand for. And for that reason and many more, I’ll do whatever the fuck I please with whatever flag.
