There may be a standard “pretty face” but that’s not the main point of this issue. The issue is how weight plays into the definition of beauty. You are incorrect in stating that it is the same throughout history (as mentioned above) and all cultures. In the US our culture promotes beauty in terms of being skinny or ‘fit’ but I have a friend from Jamaica who says her culture’s idea of beauty is curvy and “voluptuous.” Our culture cares a lot about not being fat because there is a lot of focus on flaunting what you’ve got and baring skin, in many cultures women aren’t allowed to expose their bodies in such a way so beauty is not defined by their bodies.
Completely agree with you!! If that’s how you motivate yourself that’s cool, you do you. But it is completely inappropriate for the workplace. I assume this would be hurtful to any employees working there and that is no way to promote a workplace where people feel safe. I understand that the intention was not to target those who are overweight but in such a public setting it can easily be taken as a form of bullying. Keep it private people!
