It’s impossible not to love Adele. Her voice is literally the voice of an angel and during the the brief moments when she’s not serenading an entire stadium, she does wonderful things like pull sorority girls up on stage and help facilitate a proposal (even if it didn’t work out and ended in total and complete embarrassment).
She’s right smack dab in the middle of her North American tour right now and totally killing it. Unless you bought your tickets the minute they came out, there’s a good chance you won’t be seeing her. She’s incredibly popular. So popular, in fact, that she was asked by the NFL to perform at the 2017 Superbowl halftime show taking place in Houston on February 5, 2017. Surprisingly, she turned the major opportunity down.
She explained why at her Saturday night show in Los Angeles.
“First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl,” she says to a round of applause. “I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I said no.”
Can you imagine Adele coming out onto the field at the Superbowl with this super choreographed routine with lights and fireworks and backup dancers? No? Me either. That’s just not her style. As much as I would’ve loved to see her make two football teams cry, I totally respect her decision to turn it down. She’ll have other, better opportunities to showcase her insane abilities.
So if Adele isn’t performing at the Superbowl halftime show, who is? Taylor Swift, perhaps? I smell a comeback..
