American Horror Story: Roanoke (Season 6)
Presented as a paranormal documentary series titled My Roanoke Nightmare, the story follows a married couple whose experiences are re-enacted by actors. Shelby (Lily Rabe) and Matt Miller (André Holland) move from Los Angeles, California, to a house in North Carolina following a brutal assault which left Matt temporarily hospitalized and caused Shelby to have a miscarriage. As soon as the couple settles into their new home, set in the Roanoke Island, strange and paranormal occurrences begin to haunt them and Matt’s sister, Lee Harris (Adina Porter). In the five-episode documentary, Shelby is portrayed by the extravagant English actress Audrey Tindall (Sarah Paulson), Matt by the conceited Dominic Banks (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Lee by the alcoholic Monet Tumusiime (Angela Bassett).
Best Things About Season 6:
• While it was torture not knowing the theme, it was actually sort of fun. Miserable, sure. But like, we’re all fucked up, right?
• And even once the season started, we didn’t actually know what was happening until episode 6.
• The whole, behind-the-scenes documentary thing was actually pretty genius.
• Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson got together, which was pretty extraordinary.
• There was a shitton of throwbacks and connections to past seasons because it’s all finally starting to
come together.
Worst Things About Season 6:
• Jessica Lange wasn’t in it. Again.
• THERE. WAS. NO. TITLE. SEQUENCE.
• We had to wait six episodes for it to get really good, which is just a little bit sadistic on Ryan Murphy’s part.
• Evan Peters was killed off way too quickly.
• It wasn’t as good as Coven, but really, is anything ever?
