And of course if you’re a true southern girl you should be reading Gone With the Wind, if you haven’t already done so. You can buy a 75th Anniversary copy this summer!

Favorite book of all time!!! love the pic too!!!

Thanks! If you love GWTW, then you’ll probably like “Rhett Butler’s People”. It’s the story from his perspective!

I’d recommend American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld, the author of Prep. The main character is inspired by Laura Bush. The story begins when she is in high school and the plot continues until she becomes first lady. The book is divided by her addresses, which is very clever because it ends at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

I’d also recommend 13 Reasons Why. It’s written for high schoolers, but it’s a very clever and unique story, and they’re making a movie out of it soon.

For casual wear (especially as an undergrad), I often wore the classic srat “running around” outfit of norts and greek ts (mine or my fratdaddy’s) with rainbows or nike running shoes if on the way to the gym, and throw on a patagonia fleece if it’s chillier. I prefer JBrand or Seven jeans, though you can find affordable jeans at other more ‘discount’-like stores as long as you put in the time to shop – find a shape and pocket placement that suits your body. I went to school in the north and populated my wardrobe with a lot of boots for winter – Frye boots are great quality and adorable. I enjoy dresses and tops from boutiques but have no qualms of a simple ‘uniform’ of boots, skinny jeans, and cardigans. Tory Burch flats and sperrys (I prefer the classic style, non-feminized version) are popular and comfortable shoe options, tried and true. Everyone needs a classic, modest, stylish black dress, and it’s something important to invest in. As a sratty gal, you will likely need one for your sorority (Pref night, etc.), so take the time to find one that looks great and is tailored well for you.

For the work week (I’m a social media professional), I prefer double vented pencil skirts, Ralph Lauren oxfords, and cardigans with a little fun detail or embellishment – think a J.Crew cardigan with unusual buttons or a ribbon detail. For shoes I usually wear a classic black leather pointy toed pump or a nude round toe pump for summer. I carry a number of larger bags to work (need the room for papers/folders, planner, books for work, etc) , switching it up for outfit or mood, usually something classic, reliable, and leather (I like marc by marc jacobs and have a few of his leather bags: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/marc-by-marc-jacobs-classic-q-huge-hillier-hobo/3052749?origin=related-3052749-0-0-2). I’ve had longchamps since high school and they’re easy and stylish bags as well. I keep my jewelry classic with pearl or diamond studs, pearl necklace (if I wear a necklace), a claddagh ring I received as a gift from my father from ireland (http://claddagh.com/ – if you’re not familiar), a monogram ring, and a Michele watch. I prefer classic nail polishes for the week, more “fun” colors for summer, especially if they highlight bronzed skin.

I’d love to hear what other girls wear in the professional world, and to everyone: keep srattin’!

I’m so glad to finally see someone mention a Michele watch. I’m absolutely in love with my Deco diamond watch!

Fourteen years of pre-professional ballet training including 25-30 hrs/week all through high school. I suppose it may be more of an art than a sport, however dance requires a level of stamina, strength, and muscle control that matches any competitive athletic event.

I bet you have some killer legs! My only regret in life is that I was never in ballet. Haha.

i love anything with horses!!! equestrian sports are wonderful and lifelong passions, i’m so excited to have little equestrian daughters too lol. i also played tennis, and i was a swimmer all through high school. swimming might not be as sratty but it definitely keeps you in awesome shape. running’s great too!

I think swimming is pretty sratty, especially if you did it when you were younger! I mean, who hasn’t swam on their country club’s team when they were a kid! I haven’t been on a team in forever, but I still love to swim laps at the pool. It’s such a great way to keep cool and clear my head!

    Running. I ran 7 half-marathons last year!

That’s fantastic! Do you train by yourself? I started running this year, and I’ve gotten up to about 4 miles a day, but I’m not sure how to tackle the half marathon. Any tips?

There was a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields called the Old South… Here in this pretty world Gallantry took its last bow… Here was the last ever to be seen of Knights and their Ladies Fair, of Master and of Slave… Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered. A Civilization gone with the wind…

I don’t know how i could forget this!

I love the Gone With the Wind quotes!

“Now isn’t this better than sitting at a table? A girl’s got but two sides to her at a table.”

I love love love your picture! I’m like obsessed with Gone With the Window. Last year, my mom did one of our Christmas trees in just GWTW ornaments. SO cute! And the existential sorority movie.

I completely agree! Everyday I try to be a little more like Scarlett O’hara!

things i personally take issue with (and yes, i realized i will practically get jumped for some of these):

    yurman.
let’s be honest, we don’t wear yurman because it’s feminine or particularly attractive (mixing gold and silver? hmm), we wear it 60% for the gaudy but well-cut gems and 40% for conspicuous consumption. and also because kate moss rocked it in those yurman ads.
so if you’re wearing a skinny little cable bracelet with a sad seed pearl at the end, you’re playing the game wrong.
points back if you’re rocking, like, 5 of them as bangles, but really, the end of your cable bracelet should be strong enough to knock a hole in the side of a natty can for an impromptu shotgun.
the earrings can be great. the albion rings are ok. and anything onyx works for me.
anything in the “confetti” collection should be outlawed.

    lilly.
swimsuits – awesome. planners/iphone covers/accessories – awesome. murfee scarves – double awesome. lace dresses – triple awesome. and i can’t wait to see the new furniture collection.
but please, ladies, don’t overdo it.
just because it has that lp label doesn’t mean its a) attractive or b) classic.
suggestion: if you know that you’re going to an event where a lot of people are going to be wearing lilly (easter, summer wedding, horse races), make it a point NOT to wear lilly. “drunk clashing clones” should not be a synonym for “sorority women.”
and if you have a cup size larger than B, your momma should have already told you not to wear shift dresses. you will invariably find yourself photographed with a uniboob slug trapped under a loud print.
also, for me, lilly is cut too large to fit flatteringly, so i take issue with that as well.

    longchamp.
i love you, but i might love my jon hart more.

    j.crew.
perhaps it’s just my school, but EVERYONE wears j.crew and it bores me to tears. i like having people ask me where i got my clothes instead of just being able to recognize a poor imitation of the catalog look.

i also don’t understand the depth of discussion regarding brands of jeans on this thread.
just wear what fits. checking out the stitching on someone’s ass pocket in order to discern the brand seems incredibly high school to me.
    who. cares.

I agree that Lilly is cut a little big, but I have a really good tailor. I think that’s the number one rule for looking great in any outfit. If a dress was worth the money you paid for it, then it is worth the money to have it tailored to fit your body. Nothing looks better than a pair of jeans or dress that were tailored to fit your gorgeous body perfectly!

I think the jean discussion is a little funny, too. If a brand looks great on you, then buy it! Just avoid all the heinous Ed Hardy-esque designs. Haha.

Also, if you prefer Jon Hart but are one more of a Longchamp budget, I think it’s completely worth it to order the custom Longchamp bags.

I have a quick question, I have a string of black pearls from Fiji that my daddy bought for me, but idk what to wear them with or if they can be sratty. Help please :)

If I were you, I would reserve the black pearls for dressier outfits, probably darker colors and maybe certain brights. I bet they’d look cute if you wore a creme dress with a black belt or got a white cardigan with black detailing.

I agree with SigmaSweet! I think that black pearls would look beautiful with a cream or white outfit! Maybe even some very light pastels…
