sounds like they are setting up their students for failure, especially those in more demanding diciplines that require a ton of bookwork/busywork… I’m interested to see if grades fall because sudents felt they had to take a couple hours out of their day to walk a few miles when they could be studying for midterms and finals…
probably trying to convince herself that her behavior was ok and that she isn’t a horrible person for doing what she did. its a small admission of guilt IMO
just trying to get people to think in a world where people continuously jump to conclusions, nothing wrong with fostering a little perspective. LIEP sister!
I’d also like to disclose that I do not have much information on this story, only what was presented in this article. if anyone has info I am missing, please feel free to fill me in, because at this point it looks like a man hunt for someone who didn’t actually break the law and I would really rather be wrong
I’m going to go a bit Elle Woods here… on what grounds and with what evidenciary support are we making these assumptions? are we really believing he is going to shoot up a school simply for having a gun buying shotgun shells, something that is constitutionally legal? is it now a crime to have emotions while owning a gun? I have two scenarios I would like to consider:
1. He bought them to kill himself. consider the notion that he’s extremely depressed and after he lost everything he cared about (the fraternity and the student govt position), he feels like he has no other choice but to kill himself. he already doesnt see life worth living, and now on top of the depression and losing everything that was important to him, we are mislabeling him as a school shooter when he hasnt done or planned to do anything of the sort. at this point, can his life get any worse? do we really want to be the ones pointing fingers if this is the case? especially if his dead body pops up in the next few days or weeks? do we want that blood on our hands?
2. He is a hunter as a hobby. he lost everything he cared about, and decided to retreat into the woods and shoot some deer to cope. he is using a healthy coping strategy, and is now being labeled a school shooter… for crime of taking care of his emotions properly. once again, do we really want to be the ones pointing fingers if this is the case?
Yeah I’m actually kind of upset my sorority withdrew our support. my understanding is that sororities didn’t approve of this because it would require the victim to report to the police as well as the university, but what I dont understand is that if one is willing to report it to the university, why would you be against reporting it to law enforcement as well? what makes one ok to report to, and the other not ok? if you want the school to take action against your rapist, wouldn’t you also want law enforcement to take action? if you have nothing to hide, what are you worried about? It’s not fair that we can accuse someone of something and literally ruin their lives and everything they worked for without due process of law. we as sorority women are better than that. IMO withdrawing support for this bill gives off this image that we lack character, and value pointing fingers over a fair and legitimate investigation. that is not what I signed up for when I got my letters.
YES YES YES!!!! I’ve been saying this ever since I deleted my twitter and facebook! Social Media is addictive and toxic to healthy interpersonal relationships. Just like any drug, it creates a false sense of happiness that is not sustainable.
what about women who are infertile? do their lives not matter? what about women who have mental illness and cannot handle pressures of motherhood, yet hold down jobs and are functioning members of society? are their lives meaningless as well? what about women who have debilitating terminal genetic illness and refuses to be a parent due to the fact that she would pass on the illness to her children? or the CPS worker who spends 60 hours a week helping abused and neglected children (from mothers that never should have been mothers, and may have been pressured into it by people like you) and has seen enough pain to know she never wants her own children, is her life meaningless regardless of the hundreds of children she helped? To assert that a woman’s life doesn’t matter and is meaningless if she doesn’t reproduce is, simply put, sexist.
bless your poor heart. I’m so sorry the only thing you’ve accomplished in your life is something that nearly every single other living being can do. maybe if you didn’t have such a narrow world view, you would have something more unique to be proud of.
it doesn’t feel good to be judged, does it? maybe you should keep your judgmental opinions to yourself.
i hate the “you’re selfish if you dont want kids” argument. in my opinion, it is much more selfish for a family member to criticize your major life decisions and tell you how you should live your life, when they aren’t the ones who would have to live with the consequences of that decision. they are much more selfish than you are simply because they think they know how you should live your life better than you do.
this makes me feel really bad for every person who had false rape accusations against them. until universities start addressing rape cases through legitimate law enforcement agencies and give the accusation due process, this will be a horrible idea. any scorned lover will be able to cry rape in order to get back at their ex. universities need to stop trying to play cops here and leave the police work to the real investigators before this is implemented or else it will be a failure and make a mockery of actual rape victims.
dear lord, I am tired of seeing these comments saying “wow, you learn nothing about the sisterhood.” isn’t that what 5 days of recruitment rounds is for? Actual conversations with actual sisters will teach you more about the sorority than any video can, and that’s not even including speeches from the president, recruitment chair, and Philo chair. And let’s be real, don’t you think PNMs have already done a ton of research prior to rush?
Videos like this are standard at west coast sororities. If you don’t do one, you stand out in a negative way. My school used to do the informative video full of talking heads, and let me tell you, it does not keep the PNMs attention. Why would they want to listen to someone talk, when that’s all they’ve been doing all day?
Just because things are done differently at these schools doesn’t mean you get to judge them about it. So much for pan love….
why can’t a guy keep his appreciation to himself, or at least limit it to ONLY his buddies? Is he so insecure with his sexuality that he needs to take pictures of strangers and post them on the internet without their permission, just to show he looks at women’s butts? It’s sad, really.
healthy food can be delicious too… avocados are the fruit of the gods

majorrr snaps for this right here, this is a good lesson for many girls both inside and outside the greek system. Props to you girlie!
Or the abuser.. so many red flags..
