I would like to start off by stating that I am not in a sorority, however my sister, and most of my friends are. I go to WSU, and this article got quickly noticed and passed around. Yes, I have yik yak as well. And I have to say, compared to most other schools, it is actually incredibly supportive. The reason the leaders of the greek system decided that they didn’t like it (again, this is coming from my friends in the greek system) was that too many people were “bashing” the greek system. And by that I mean, events that happened at greek parties would get posted (like fights or whatever), and make said frat or sorority look bad. In fact, many people in the greek system often comment on how the the greek system has gone down hill. And if THAT many people are trashing the organization, maybe they should’t be placing blame on an app. They should be placing it on the members and leaders of the system. Because now all that is going to happen are GDIs are going to constantly bash the greek system, and PNMs will get on that and see it. If people aren’t doing the actions, there is nothing to post about. And at least our schools yik yak is MUCH more supportive and helpful than most schools.
