I tend to agree with this statement. I’ve been to college graduations where up to a quarter of the graduating class majored in the psychology department. And you know the vast majority of these people only took that major because they knew it was easy and they could still get drunk on weekdays. Then they start complaining when the only job they can find is flipping burgers. Honestly, what did you expect? Meanwhile the engineering department is a small fraction of any of the others even though good engineers are desperately in demand in every career field imaginable. Everything from designing aircraft to creating all kinds of software that people use everyday requires engineers of many disciplines, and the need for them will only grow enormously due to our rapid technological innovation. We’ve perpetuated this myth that if you work hard enough you’ll eventually make good money doing a job you love. At some point people have to realize that working a job that isn’t perfect for them is superior to not being able to support yourself.
