I love how that’s the one thing people choose to point out. The fact of the matter is, white people will ALWAYS have more privilege than he does because they’re white. It’s astonishing that that is the fact you choose to cling to out of this WHOLE issue. When a rich white person is pulled over in a nice car, they’re fine and will get a ticket (maybe not) and drive away. If a black person in a nice car is pulled over, then there’s the “where did you get this car?” “What do you do for a living so that you can afford this?” questions that come after. It happens ALL the time. The guy who went on a hunger strike could be the richest guy in the world and would STILL have less privilege because of his skin color. It’s not that hard to understand. Just because he has money doesn’t mean anything. Ignorance at its finest.

No. Wolfe is NOT being blamed for other people’s actions. He was ousted because he did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT ALL to address or even acknowledge the incidents that have happened at Mizzou. A real leader doesn’t turn a blind eye to his students. He doesn’t sweep issues under the rug because he doesn’t want to deal with them. He faces them head on and does something about it. Like it or not, Mizzou has been a notoriously racist campus for YEARS. A quick search will yield several stories from people who have experienced it years ago and still do now. There is an article on the history of racism at Missouri that is the top Google search right now.

I don’t think people are going about this the wrong way at all. How is any progress going to happen if people don’t get noticed? MLK didn’t just sit around and do things quietly. The marchers on Selma didn’t either. If this situation makes you uncomfortable, GOOD. We need to be talking about it. It’s 2015, this shouldn’t even be an issue.

  • DL_1888 9 years ago on Fairytale Love And Soulmates Don't Exist, And It's A Good Thing They Don't

I get the point you’re trying to make, but I think you missed the mark. For starters, love is definitely NOT a choice. If it were, there would be no crazy ex-girlfriends because we would make the choice to stop loving our ex boyfriends the second that we break up. There would be no instances of falling for your best friend, who you’re not supposed to like because he has a girlfriend, but you still fell for him anyway. No instances of someone leaving his girlfriend for someone else because even though he loves her, this other girl came along and fascinated him. None of those things would happen, but they do, and we all know it. By saying love is a choice you’re dumbing down countless studies on human emotions and thoughts for the sake of trying to write an article.

Secondly, you do have a choice when you’re with your “soulmate.” A soulmate isn’t somebody that you can never say no to, or have to love because you’re supposed to. They’re someone you genuinely love to love. There’s no choice being taken away there.

Third, when people say they’ve met “the one,” it doesn’t mean they just sit back and relax for the rest of their lives. Relationships, as you stated, take work. I don’t think that anyone denies that. But when someone says they’ve met the one, it’s someone who they can see themselves being with even through all the ups and downs. And what’s wrong with that?

The sex tape leaked in February 2007.
    The show aired October 2007.
Part of the first episode of Keeping Up with The Kardashians is that Tyra wanted Kim on her show to talk about the sex tape. That episode of Tyra premieres in September 2007, so it was probably shot in August. The sex tape came first.

It’s ok to admit what everyone already knows. She’s famous for a sex tape. That’s it.

Someone who loves you wouldn’t treat you like shit, and I think you know it. You deserve so much more, every girl does. I hope you find some inner strength and get out of that relationship and find one where you don’t have to deal with the bullshit.

True! Still though, I think we expect too much too soon because of our instant gratification expectancies. If a guy likes you he should 100% tell you, but he shouldn’t be pressured into knowing whether he really likes you or not immediately after meeting you. Hence, the “talking” phase.

“Talking” isn’t the problem. People have been doing this for years, it’s called getting to know someone. The problem is that technology has brought us instant gratification, in likes, comments, retweets etc. We’re used to getting attention right away. That’s not how it works with dating. There’s nothing wrong with getting to know someone and taking it slow. If you can’t handle that or have to over analyze every little text and Instagram post then you’re probably not ready to be in a relationship anyway.

  • DL_1888 9 years ago on I Had An Uncomfortable Sexual Experience But I Am Not A Rape Victim

Rape (n): unlawful sexual intercourse or any other sexual penetration of the vagina, anus, or mouth of another person, with or without force, by a sex organ, body part, or other foreign object, without the consent of the victim.

The author, though admittedly conflicted, GAVE CONSENT to the guy. Although she says it was uncomfortable she says it wasn’t rape so why do you have such a hard time believing her? You want to have real talk? Here it is. She gave her consent and per her experience, doesn’t see it as rape. Why can you not get that through your head? Like I said, not your body, not your choice. The lengths that men will go to to try and prove their point is ridiculous.

You’re comparing rape to grand theft auto and your user name is I’m here for the gang bang. Forgive me if I dismiss your comment as ridiculous. Furthermore, if she doesn’t feel like she was raped, that’s her right and nobody has the power to tell her differently. It’s HER body and HER experience whether you agree or not. Not your body? Not your choice.

  • DL_1888 9 years ago on I Had An Uncomfortable Sexual Experience But I Am Not A Rape Victim

I think the lesson here is that everyone has the right to define what happened to them no matter what someone else says. If you don’t think you were raped, those are your thoughts to have. If you do think you were, those are also your thoughts and how you approach that and start to heal is up to you. Nobody else can define it for you, you are 100% spot on.

Another important point is that rape doesn’t have one definition in terms of how it happened. It doesn’t have to be a brutal, violent, no-chance-for-escape encounter for it to be rape. That’s what is often portrayed in the media and on TV and unfortunately, it seems, a lot on this website. But that is NOT the only way. It’s important that if someone thinks they were raped, regardless of the situation, that we as women support them, not start telling them they weren’t raped (or the opposite like in this situation).

  • DL_1888 9 years ago on Zeta Wants Everyone To Wear Pink To The UT Game Saturday

No, I completely understood your point. It’s important that we raise awareness for lesser known diseases, I 100% agree. However, there isn’t any point in putting down the awareness that is raised for breast cancer (and yes, it IS the #1 most common cancer in women. I said cancer, not disease) to try and get other issues to be recognized. That’s why I said we can take some clues and strategies for very successful awareness events and help raise awareness for other cancers.

Because breast cancer is the #1 most common cancer in women. Obviously there are many other types of cancer that need awareness too, and that awareness happens. It may not be on as big of a scale, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not as important.

We shouldn’t look at this as a competition on which cancer deserves the most awareness, that’s like going into a save the rainforest rally and saying that other forests matter too, or asking why all of February should be Black History Month because there are other races too. Nobody said other types of cancer are less important. Rather, it may be a great chance to look at some of the things ZTA, the NFL, and other organizations do for breast cancer awareness month and see if those things can be started elsewhere.

I have a hard time empathizing. It sounds to me like you don’t appreciate being in your house and instead of trying to bond with the girls who ARE your sisters and enjoying your college years with them, you’re sitting around thinking “what if.” It doesn’t sound like you want to be in your house at all, and by saying things like they don’t have skinny legs or nice cars it doesn’t sound like you value your sisters for the right things. If you don’t want to be in your house that’s fine, drop. It doesn’t sound like you’re in Greek life for the right reasons anyway.
