I’m not easily offended, so I do think this was blown out of proportion. But what gets me is that their president said, “Mississippi Blood Services has come to depend on us.” Obviously your members aren’t taking that seriously enough if they choose to behave like 13 year old boys at a philanthropy event. Consider the lives you’re saving before putting your chapter into jeopardy over some “innuendo.”

Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand what you’re saying. But nationals are not quick to pull charters or close chapters, so I can’t imagine they made a hasty decision because of a small infraction. I hate seeing sorority women act like hazing and underage drinking isn’t a big deal. It is, and it causes issues that warrant attention, and that attention makes Greek life as a whole look bad. Should you throw a struggling chapter under the bus? No. But supporting each other is about more than giving girls a free pass when they mess up. It’s about holding each other accountable to respect and uphold the common values of all of our organizations.

Come on. Let’s hold ourselves and each other to higher standards. It’s awful that these girls lost their chapter, but whether it was a small infraction or a huge violation, they were already in trouble. They could have and should have acted appropriately until the storm passed. I don’t feel bad for them – I feel bad for the hundreds of alumni that came before them that are left with no chapter at their alma mater.

  • dzxt 8 years ago on Texting 24/7 Isn't Natural And We Should Maybe Stop Doing It

Amen. Texting is great – it is so useful, especially for someone like ZetaTauAwesome14 with her long distance relationship. However, it’s also totally disrupting normal/healthy social development. I see way too many children that struggle with face-to-face communication, and have even seen adult relationships destroyed because one partner can’t talk about problems out loud and can only text them. It’s absurd and really sad.

Exactly what I was going to say. Also, why do so many pop artists think they’re entitled to awards? Just because Nicki thinks her video was great doesn’t mean that it was. Influencing pop culture doesn’t mean you’re talented, it just means you’ve influenced pop culture…and that doesn’t even mean you’ve influenced it in a positive way.

There are plenty of “unattractive” people with significant others, so yeah, personality is definitely something that will pique someone’s interest.

Anyone familiar with other Target collabs would know that the line will likely not feature the same patterns or styles as full price Lilly. Don’t worry – trust fund babies can still affirm how much money their fathers make by matching their mothers and grandmothers, as anyone who actually cares will probably be able to tell the difference between full price Lilly and Lilly for Target.

No. What is unfair is that the vast majority of the Greek community is constantly working to defy negative stereotypes, and while this site in general hinders that, articles like this make it even worse. Yes, Greeks drink. But drinking in letters doesn’t help our image, and it’s not something that any Greek should be encouraging. Someone on the street doesn’t know the difference between your letters and mine, so all Greeks need to respect all letters, and drinking in your letters is NOT respecting them.

Who are you to say that national sororities judge their members? Standards isn’t meant to be judgmental, it’s meant to remind ladies that they joined a values based organization and they’re obligated to uphold those values. I’m glad that my organization can use those values to recruit other great women, instead of enticing girls with cheap promises of drinking in letters and not having to answer to anyone. And don’t come at me with more accusations of being judgmental – I’m just repeating what I read in this article: that you should join a local sorority because you can drink in letters and don’t have a Standards board! You can thank the author for putting that out there.

Also, the president of a local sorority in no way has all of the same responsibilities and duties of the president of a national sorority. Local sororities don’t have national councils and officers to answer to or work with, for one. While that may seem like a burden, a smart girl would see that as an excellent networking opportunity.

There is nothing wrong with being in a local sorority, but you’re not using good examples or even telling the truth.
