There are many Sweet Briar girls who claim to feel totally shocked about this happening but as a former student at SBC, I can’t seem to figure out how anybody would be shocked about it. Racism and social division has become sickeningly prominent at the school. Just a few months ago, the colleges yik yak was full of hate and many girls commented on feeling apart from their sisterhood to which some students yakked “apps like yik yak really make me consider why I went to this school to begin with sisterhood my ass” and “we are supposed to be close sisters but all we do is talk shit and bully each other. come on! what the fuck.” There was a lot of tension towards the end of the semester and a lot of girls found themselves targets of anonymous bullies. The social oppression at that school is unreal and it’s a shame because the professors are actually really helpful. I’m also confused about Sweet Briar students acting so stunned because racial division has been a very persistent issue at the school for years. There was also a student earlier this year who posted on the yik yak questioning why SBC didn’t have any black professors and there were a few very offensive responses, especially when somebody had yakked back “because they are all in the kitchen.” And racism is just the beginning. There are many, MANY girls that have graduated from SBC and who are still there that were extremely catty and unnecessarily mean to people. And these girls have and will make sure that you don’t feel apart of the “sisterhood” if they don’t like you. A lot of first-years transfer out just after their first semester, and I totally get it because I was told by SBC staff and students all of these amazing things about sisterhood and about tradition and bearing the rose together but there are many girls there who care more about bearing their thorns than they do protecting their “sisters.”
