Everyone finds closure differently after surviving sexual assault. As someone who lived through a relationship that was abusive I feel like this girl is extremely brave and has reclaimed her confidence in an amazing way. This might not be true for all survivors, but for me, being silent and pretending it didn’t happen–living in shame– is almost worse than the physical act itself. All I know, based on my story, is that grieving sexual assault requires you to be able to grieve the loss of the person you were before and latch onto your new normal. I applaud her for not living in shame and showing everyone on her campus that she refuses to be ashamed of what her attacker did to her.
She’s on to bigger and better things! Good for her!
This happens way too much in sororities and reflects the negative stereotypes associated with Greek life.
