The two are actually really different. While some people may see recruitment as shallow, it really does prepare you for the real world. It’s like an interview. You will automatically be judged by your appearance, personality and life accomplishments. Though appearance doesn’t seem very fair, I feel like it has much more to do with professionalism than it does being “pretty” or “stylish.” If someone was to go into an interview with bed head, lazy clothes and no apparent attempts of freshening up, they will have a harder time getting the job. Now if someone looked different, yet professional and show that they cared enough to look nice, they’ll have as good of a chance as a drop dead gorgeous gal! Personality is pretty self explanatory and life accomplishments are like your resume! Little things to help you stand out and prove your character!

Now as to why it’s different than the completely shallow part? When she was preparing for recruitment, she was expecting the appearances to be that of the “stereotypical sorority girl.” Materialistic, crazed over fashion and (the best way to truly describe it) shallow! She’s emphasizing the importance that sorority life isn’t all that people actually think it is!

Entering college I was NOT planning on joining a sorority. I was certain it wasn’t for me, but everyone else on my floor was rushing and insisted I at least rush. I am eternally grateful for my floor mates for making me do so, rushing was the best decision I have made so far in college!

Bottom line: If you’re on the bubble, rush. If you’re not on the bubble, you should probably try it anyway. You don’t need to commit to a sorority, but at least give it a try to see if it’s something you’ll like. You won’t regret it 🙂
