I’m not saying there isn’t a double standard. Black men shooting white people isn’t news because they’re so quickly thrown in jail, unlike white men where people justify their actions. I’m more disgusted at the fact that OP so blatantly took news of a tragic event that has affected all too many people and dismissed it as “just another shooting”.
As a member of a women’s fraternity, let me tell you, that can be nothing further from the truth. Your whole argument is basically saying that any organization on campus is a clique but you’re choosing to target the members of Greek Life. I’m going to go down your list and tell you why your claims could be nowhere further from the truth.
1. Sororities serve no purpose.
Sororities do, in fact have a purpose. We are active on campus, engage in community service, and always put our best foot forward to represent our chapters and campuses well. We encourage scholarship, community, integrity and honor.
2. Sororities are for students who don’t want to leave the idea of high school by having a set group of friends.
No where does it say that you become instant best friends with everyone in your school’s Greek system nor can you NOT be friends with non-affiliated or independent students. Admittedly, some of the best friends I have made in college are members of various Greek organizations but even more of my friends made the choice to remain non-affiliated. They don’t treat me differently for being Greek and vice versa.
3. We rub in the fact that we have more money than everyone else.
I have no idea where you got that. In reality, many members of the Greek community (including myself) are receiving financial aid to help pay for their schooling and are working one or more jobs to help pay the bills. Sure, some of us have very nice material possessions but others don’t. Also, living in the houses are often cheaper than living in the dorm and saves us money we can use to pay for school. Greeks are humble and thankful for what they have, including having the privilege of living in a nicer facility, however, we would NEVER openly rub our financial records in other people’s faces.
We don’t have pref at my school, what is it?
Sorry you didn’t get a bid, homegirl.
