Second semester recruitment does not solve these problems. Girls who would be good fits for different chapters, shun these chapters because of pre conceived notions, rumors, sterotypes and reputations. Girls at my school often have to go through recruitment twice (two springs) because the first year the let the stereotypes influence them in where they feel they belong. Many drop because they felt that they got the “bottom sororities”. The second time around (some) put the stereotypes aside and join where they should have joined the first year/time around. On the flip side, sorority sisters hear things about potential PNM’s which could create biased towards them giving a girl a bid or not giving her a bid. Changing the time of recruitment won’t solve the issue. Changing how we connect with PNM’s will.
