Honestly putting a woman on the $20 bill is a waste of time and money. It’s not going to change any of the inequality in this country and I wish we would actually focus on bigger issues women face today instead. It feels like a participation award, like oh you’re discriminated against, well things aren’t going to change soon, but you can have a female one the $20 bill, doesn’t that make you feel better.

Honestly I hate recruitment videos. I think they’re fine to put on YouTube, but are a waste of time during actual recruitment. That way PNMs who care and are interested in them can look them up on their own time. They all look the same and never show the houses actual values or personalities (except a few creative ones). If you can’t find something to talk about with a girl without the aid of a video that is a problem all on its own.

Am I offended by the banners? No. Do I feel like I am some sort of victim because of those banners? No. Do I think there are alternative ways to make banners, that don’t violate a sorority’s values? Absolutely. Do I think those banners portray what it is to be a member of one of those houses? Absolutely not. Do I think that those banners do more harm than good for the Greek community? Yes. Do I think all discussion about what effects those banners may or may not have should come to a halt because some money was raised for charity? No.

Yay money was raised for a good cause! Who cares how it got raised? It did, let’s stop talking about it because money got raised. As long as you have the defense that money was raised anything that could possibly be questionable is dismissed because you know money WAS raised for a good cause so why or how could it matter. How could the means of raising money ever even compete with the big picture that money got raised because according to your logic as long as money was raised for a charity nothing else is relevant. And they really had no other options to raise the money besides portraying women’s sexuality so let’s just stop talking about it.

You’re right no one ever applies for a job in their college town where there future employer might drive by Greek houses. That would never happen.. My bad no one of importance will ever associate you with negative PR involving your Greek letters. We should probably just stop wasting our time and energy trying to get the outside world to see sorority women beyond their stereotype.

Banners like that are not helping all of us sorority women to be taken seriously. Professors and future employers will probably see those banners and when they find out your house they won’t be thinking of your philanthropy, your leadership, or your GPA. They’ll just think about how you don’t stop at third base. The problem doesn’t lie in the men judging the banners or throwing the event. The problem lies in women thinking they don’t have any values worth displaying besides their sexuality and that’s the only way they can compete. The banners aren’t men objectifying women it’s women objectifying themselves, their sisters, and their organization. As sorority women we should encourage celebrating other values in ourselves and others besides our sexuality.

“Hey do you want to come over to my place now that it’s last call and hangout more?” “Yes” weird I never saw someone agreeing to have sex in that conversation. I never saw any consent given. It’s clearly not the same conversation as “Hey do you want to have sex?” “Yes” not sure why it’s so difficult to consume the two

I think what you’re saying is 100% valid. People love playing the victim and that forces someone to be a vilan. In order to ensure you’re not that vilan you have to watch every joke you say or hair style you wear. You never know what little thing you do someone is going to get offended by.

Loved 99% of the column, except for the 500lb girl reference. If the ONLY reason you’re dropping a girl is because she will fill out a t-shirt with your letters a little too much, you could be missing out on an amazing and unique person. I’m not sure what sororities have values that automatically exclude someone past a certain BMI.

“Fuck you skinny bitches” only being sexually desired if you have an ass and promoting the message that a woman’s body’s value is in how sexually desired she is. If you think those are positive messages and gaining self confidence is your body by tearing down other body types is the best way to love your body I sincerly hope you don’t have a daughter.
