The bullying is a side of SBC that I’ve never experienced. I’m sorry to hear that some people’s experiences here have been so negative, and yeah, it does surprise me because everyone here has always been so kind and welcoming to me. If I’m sitting alone at lunch, for example, not 10 minutes will pass without someone coming by to make sure I’m OK or inviting me to sit with them, and I always feel comfortable going to sit with a group of people I don’t know yet because I’m confident that they’ll welcome me and include me in the conversation. I’ve never encountered anyone talking shit about their fellow students, either, although maybe this just means my friends and acquaintances here are nicer than average?
I also haven’t ever seen racism in action at the school until this incident. I am white, but I think (at least, I certainly hope) black students are welcomed just as much here. People of all races seem to get along well here, as far as I have seen, and my black friends have never mentioned any problems like that to me.
I haven’t ever used Yik yak, so I can’t speak for that.
Your point about black professors is a good one. We do have professors of color, but not any black professors in particular as far as I know. 🙁

I just want to make it clear that we SBC students are absolutely shocked and disgusted by this act. We are not ignoring it. We are not condoning it. We are not a bunch of racists, nor have I ever encountered anything like this in previous years here.
    And this?
“I hope someone has the guts to say that this was hateful and unacceptable. I hope that at least one of you looks out at your beautiful campus and realizes the fucked up things that likely happened on that very soil. I hope that at least one of you realizes that your family money dating back to the plantation days is not a product of your family working hard. We can’t take back our history, but we can be better than it. Unfortunately, women of Sweet Briar College, you’re proving to be no better that our very tarnished past. And believe me, when your looks fade and your Hampden-Sydney husband leaves you for a younger model of your former self, you’ll be left with nothing but three kids and an ugly, ugly soul. Hate doesn’t look good on anyone–even those in riding boots.”
This is highly offensive and uncalled-for. You’re stereotyping, blaming, and insulting all the wonderful, diverse, open-minded women of this institution who are not racist, who are just as eager as you are to find the culprit, and who are determined to see that this person is punished.
