As a feminist, and a pretty radical one at that, I’m critical of the idea that women (or men) make choices entirely independently of social pressures. For me, feminism isn’t so much about approving of every woman’s choice as it is about having solidarity for her in all the shit that comes with being a woman in this world. That said, I think sororities can be a great place for feminism. It’s a group of women who are committed to building each other up instead of tearing each other down. We’re fostering bonds that will help us to empower each other not just in college but for the rest of life as well. We compare our experiences as women, and are always ready with hugs, Postmates, and a listening ear for our sisters who have been fucked over by the patriarchy. So yeah, there are ways that sorority culture can hurt (recruitment could do with several changes), but I think sororities are totally compatible with feminism and can actually be hugely empowering.

“Thanks, I get that a lot” is actually a great line to use in this situation (assuming it’s a hookup and not a boyfriend, of course). Plus, you can gauge from his reaction whether he’s a chill guy with a sense of humor about it or if he’s the type that thinks it’s cool for him to slam a bunch of girls but will turn around and call you a slut when you do the same.

I get where you’re coming from, and it is pretty intimate (oral for either sex is way more intimate than fingering or handjobs), but to me the most serious sex act is one that has even the slightest chance of getting me pregnant. That is some deep shit right there.
